Description

The M2 Medium High-Speed Tractor or Cletrac was used for moving aircraft and heavy equipment around Army Air Force Bases during World War II. Designed and built as a tracked vehicle, the 7-ton Cletrac could easily tow aircraft and trailers around primitive airfields and in inclement weather. Also nicknamed “The Bomber Nurse,” the Cletrac had a winch, air compressor, generator, and nitrogen bottle for use in supporting aircraft maintenance and repairs. Approximately 8,500 Cletracs were built by the Cleveland Tractor Company and John Deere. The Cletrac continued to serve after World War II and into the Korean War.
