Description

The Ford GTB, commonly called the Burma Jeep, was a 1 1⁄2-ton 4×4 truck produced during WWII by Ford for the United States military, mostly used by the US Navy and Marine Corps. The GTB was used predominantly in the Pacific Theater during World War II, with many being used on the “Burma Road”. GTBs remained in service after WW II and were used during the Korean War (1950-1953). The GTB’s Ordnance Standard nomenclature number was G-622.

Ford produced over 15,000 GTBs in five models, all with dual rear wheel drive, expect the GTBS model. The GTB truck model was Cargo, the basic version with a troop/cargo carrying bed equipped with side mounted folding bench seats. The GTBA truck, U.S. Navy model, was produced in “Ocean Grey”. The rarest model was the wrecker, GTBB version, with only 50 being built. The GTBS and GTBC were designed for Bomb services with the U.S. Navy. The GTBC was an improved model. The last GTB units were retired from service as late as 1967.
